Born in New York City on August 24, 1927, Lloyd grew up during a period of world turmoil but maintained a unique optimism throughout his life. After attending Townsend Harris and DeWitt Clinton High Schools, he was a proud graduate and benefactor of Baruch University. He then served honorably in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary as District Commodore during the 1950s and ’60s, after first becoming the youngest senior flag officer ever elected to the New York area.
After falling in love with summer camp at Camp Greylock as a child, Lloyd later pursued this passion professionally when he took over Ken-Mont and Ken-Wood Camp in 1959. For the next seven decades, Lloyd dedicated his life to the camp, spending 40 years as the owner and director and more than 20 as a neighbor, friend, welcomed visitor, and tireless advocate for children and camp. During this time, Lloyd also became a key fixture in the Kent community, serving as a volunteer constable and dedicating numerous hours to the Kent Volunteer Fire Department. Other passions included the arts, as Lloyd was a proud supporter and attendee of the NYC Ballet and Tanglewood Music Festival.
Lloyd is survived by his children: David and Catherine, Jonathan (Yehuda) and Michelle (Michal Leah), and Michael and Marianne. He is beloved by his grandchildren: Joshua, Nachum and Liora, Bryan and Emma, Binyamin and Adina, Aliza and Dov, Rivka and Yerachmiel, and Beatrix, as well as by his first wife Louise and her partner Sue and his many great grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
The family has asked that contributions in Lloyd’s memory be made to either the American Kidney Fund or Camp Negeela Midwest.
Following the burial, the family requests you to join them when they sit for just 2 minutes for the first day of shiva in the cemetery followed by the afternoon service, mincha, outside by the main building offices of the cemetery.
