Mindy Beth Fiveson
January 11, 1962 – August 30, 2020
Mindy Beth Fiveson of Phoenix, AZ, was raised in Valley Stream, NY. She was the only daughter of Marcia Perl, a retired teacher, and Walter Fiveson, an auto businessman. Both are of Russian Hungarian Jewish ancestry. Mindy’s brother, David Merk, played an important role in her life, and her beloved grandmother, Esther Solomon, of Queens, NY, was her “best friend” during Mindy’s formative years. Mindy attended Forest Road School and was a 1980 graduate of Valley Stream South High School. She was a member of 4-H Club, played French horn in elementary school and high school marching band, and was an active member of her high school sorority, the Green and White Society. She loved riding horses, won several horseback-riding awards, had great fashion style, and was an adoring, exceptional pet owner. She was a camp counselor at Camp Pontiac in the Berkshires, and was dearly loved by her close-knit group of elementary and high school friends throughout her life. Mindy left Valley Stream to attend Boston University in Boston, MA, earning a Bachelors' Degree in Marketing in 1984. She loved Boston, and after graduating, decided to stay. She worked as a marketer for Chelsea Screen Print. She married Richard Connor in 1990. Their marriage ended in 1993. In 1995, Mindy moved to Phoenix, AZ, taking on work where she was able to implement her love of helping others. She enhanced the lives of many of her students who lived in group homes. She worked at Phoenix Special Programs/Blueprint Education as a secondary school counselor/marketer and later at Life Development Institute as a college/career counselor. Throughout her years in Arizona she developed many good friendships, in particular, Darcie Busch, who became her compadre in crafts, movies and the love of animals. Mindy was always rescuing cats and dogs and supported her favorite charities, the ASPCA, the Humane Society and World Wildlife Fund. Mindy faced many physical challenges, including diabetes, the last twenty years of her life and succumbed to pneumonia on August 30, 2020 under Hospice of the Valley Care. Mindy was predeceased by her father, Walter Fiveson, her grandparents – Jacob and Esther Solomon all of New York. Left to mourn are mother Marcia Perl, half-brothers David Merk, Adam Fiveson, Keith Fiveson, Michael Fiveson and Robert Fiveson, lifelong friends Barri Cooper Altimari and Joni Klein Higger, and special friends Darcie Busch and Arlene Duston, along with all those who knew and loved Mindy. Interment was at Mt. Hebron Cemetery, Flushing, NY on September 3, 2020. A memorial service is planned on September 30, 2020 and will be officiated by Rabbi Lew in Phoenix, AZ. Memorial donations in Mindy Fiveson’s name may be contributed to World Wildlife Fund, WorldWildlife.org

Hi my name is Valerie and I was one of many CNA 's that helped take care of Mindy.. I'd like to say she really knew how to keep us on our toes. She knew what she wanted and she'd always say sorry if she felt she upset us. I'll miss her smile and when she'd say "val I love you " I hope you are skipping and running and giving everyone a run around up there too 💗 💕. And Mindy you know i love you too 😘
