I would like this eulogy to celebrate my mom’s life as I experienced it:

Although my mom was unexpectedly without her husband and with three young children to support, she was a strong woman and stepped up to the challenge. She did everything to make sure we had everything we needed to prosper – a roof over our heads, a hot meal every night, and constant attention to our education and growth. She passed on to us the traditions of Judaism and led by example.

She always made sure the neighbors kept an eye on us and reported back to her – neighborhoods were different back then – she was very protective of her girls.

Mom made most of the decisions on how to raise us by herself but she also had the support of family, friends and neighbors – she raised three strong, well-educated and attentive women and was proud of her achievements. She took joy in watching her daughters excel in education which was a result of her hard work and dedication to us.

Mom enjoyed the simple things in life - a good book, TV, daily walks through the neighborhood – and she was also very refined, passing along to us a love of New York culture, museums, the opera and ballet, taking us to institutions of learning even though money was tight. To this day, I think back to the time I was about ten years old - she took me to see Rigoletto at Lincoln Center, all dressed in my finest red crushed velvet outfit. The Metropolitan Museum of Art was one of our favorite places too and Marcy and I still visit the Temple of Dendur with great memories.

It was because you drove us to be our best that we did so well in school and in life – a better mom could not have been picked for me.

I wanted to make this short and sweet - as my mom was - so I will end by saying…

“Successful mothers are NOT the ones that have NEVER struggled – they are the ones that never give up DESPITE the struggles”.

I am sure you’ll be watching over us as you have always done.

With love from the baby of the family…Stacy
