Sarah Bolensky Andonov

Sarah Bolensky passed away on Tuesday, January 1, 2019. Sarah was born on May 4, 1961 in Yonkers, NY to Carole and the late Rabbi Harry Bolensky. She graduated from Westchester Day School and Westchester Hebrew High School. She was a talented singer, actress, and artist. She graduated from Sarah Lawrence College, where she studied all three.

After trying out different careers, including actress and chef, Sarah became a teacher and taught 3rd and 4th grade at P.S. 34 in Greenpoint, Brooklyn for many years. A life-long animal lover, Sarah raised five puppies for Guiding Eyes for the Blind - Noya, Lacy, Goldie, Rayla and Medley. She spent the last two years since retiring from teaching, raising the puppies full-time, spending a lot of quality time with her family and traveling.

Sarah was a beloved daughter to Carole Bolensky, beloved sister to Frimet and Bryan Herstic, Lillian and David Backer and Shira Sosnowitz, beloved aunt to: Seth and Amira Herstic; Brooke, Josh and Isaiah Katz; Naama, Zach and Hadas Kfare; Kayla Herstic; Harry, Hannah and Samuel Backer; and Leora Sosnowitz. She is loved and will be missed.

The funeral will take place on Wednesday, January 2, at 1:30 p.m. at Riverside Memorial Chapel in Mount Vernon, NY, followed by burial at Sharon Gardens in Valhalla, NY. Donations in her memory can be made to Guiding Eyes for the Blind
