September 4, 1955 – July 6, 2026
Anna Sue Johnson passed away peacefully at her home on July 6, 2026, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was surrounded by her close family, who sent her off into the great gig in the sky to the sounds of Pink Floyd’s Comfortably Numb—exactly the way she would have wanted it.
Born and raised in the South End of Louisville, Kentucky, Anna was the beloved daughter of the late Jayme (Resch) Reeves and Jack Reeves. She was a proud graduate of Jeffersontown High School, Class of 1973. Following graduation, Anna’s adventurous spirit took her out West, where she drove to California and spent time working at Disneyland.
Upon returning to Louisville, Anna followed her deep love for people—especially children—and attended Bellarmine College, where she earned a double major in sociology and psychology. She dedicated the early 1980s to serving others as a social worker, before transitioning to a long career with the United States Postal Service.
In 1991, Anna bought a piece of land in Spencer County, a place that would become her sanctuary. One year later, she met the love of her life, Johnny Johnson. They were married and together, they built a beautiful life and farm in Taylorsville. Anna was a true caretaker of the earth and all its creatures; she spent her happiest days tending to her vegetables, flowers, and plants, mostly picking weeds and raising a lively assortment of donkeys, mules, rheas, chickens, roosters, guineas, and peacocks. The pond on her land was a haven for countless fish and wild birds, and her home was always anchored by the deep love she had for her many Mastiffs, Bulldogs, and pets over the years.
Of all the titles Anna held, "Nana" or “Nanny” was perhaps her absolute favorite. She shared an unbreakable and eternal bond with her six grandchildren. Anna was the kind of Nana who was entirely present. Whether she was sharing the wonders of her farm with them or just listening to their stories, her grandchildren were the absolute center of her world, and the love she poured into them will stay with them forever.
Anna never met a stranger. She loved people fiercely and maintained deep, lifelong bonds with her many friends. She was a passionate UofL Cardinals fan, loved classic American food, playing Bingo with her family, thoroughly enjoyed trying her luck at the casino slot machines, and more recently had found solace playing bunco with a group of friends.
Anna is survived by her best friend and husband, Johnny Johnson; her loving children, Emily Hines (Matt) and Reed Davis (Katie); her adored grandchildren, Finn, Camille, and Tucker Hines, and Reed III, Leo, and Lola Davis. She also leaves behind her two "best big boys," her Cane Corso Mamba and her Old English Bulldog Jubal; her cat, Tat Two; her aunt, Marty Senter; her brother, Jerry Reeves (Becky); and Becky Henry and Taylor Reeves, who were like daughters to her. Her memory will also be cherished by her many nieces, nephews, and her best and closest friends Tina Tinsley, Judy Mudd, Debbie Phillips, and so many others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jayme and Jack Reeves; her sisters, Jackie Lefever and Lynny Ernspiker; and her niece, Rhiannon Henry.
