After 78 years of just plain getting the job done and taking care of people, Charles “Chuck” David Pumphrey Sr. passed away peacefully on 12/20/24. Chuck fought hard, because that was his way, but his passing was peaceful. He was surrounded by loved ones; his sons David and Jon Pumphrey, his daughter Kate Quintero, their spouses and his grandchildren were with him when he crossed over. Chuck lost his beloved wife, Suzie Pumphrey in January of 2024 he and now goes on to join her in whatever comes next.
Chuck was a dog guy, and he said any man worth knowing is. His dog Molly helped him get through that last rough year without Suzy. Molly is now living with his daughter Kate.
Nothing came easy and he worked for every single thing he had. He put in 36 years for GM where he kept the line running at Plant 20 and later at Delco and Delphi plants. He hated the factory, but he loved his union and his red Chevy truck. He was a proud member of United Auto Workers Union, Local 1963. In addition to his family Chuck loved, cars, the Colts, Calvin and Hobbes, crosswords, cold beer at maybe a Crown and Coke at his club.
In order to keep those traditions alive in a way he would have wanted there will be a celebration of life where his friends and family come drink beer at his club, The Elks Lodge on 900 N 500 W Nebo Road, Muncie, February 15 at 2pm. Chuck’s beloved sister, Lynn Turner will be there.
It was Chuck’s wish that the tears be turned to laughter on that day, and to honor that wish his three kids will be providing plenty of Miller Lite and the all the food Dad loved for those who wish to join us.
David, Kate and Jon, would like you to please join them to celebrate their Dad. Please know they will work to carry forward his legacy of love, hard work and getting the job done. The Celebration of life will be held at Muncie Elks Club, 909 North CR 500 West, Muncie IN., February 15th at 2-5pm.
