Clifton Campbell Jr.

Clifton "Slugger" Campbell Jr., 63, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, February 24, 2021, at I.U. Health Ball Memorial Hospital. Cliff was born on Sunday, April 14, 1957, in Jamestown, Tennessee to the late Clifton Campbell Sr. and Alma (Winningham) Hysel. Cliff moved to Muncie, Indiana in 1976, and he married Sandra Jo Keeler on March 12, 1977. They shared forty-three wonderful years with five children, until her passing on April 1, 2020. Cliff was a family man. Nothing in life gave him as much joy as spending time with his wife, their children, and their grandchildren. Cliff was a provider and hard worker, spending his early years in construction before changing careers and retiring from the Muncie Sanitation Department. Cliff never met a stranger, making friends everywhere he went. With his infectious laugh and sense of humor he had a gift for making others smile and putting them at ease. Cliff had a passion for nature, animals and the simple pleasures in life. He was happiest anytime he had an opportunity to spend time outdoors with his family, whether that meant fishing, sitting around a campfire, mushroom hunting, walking his dogs that he dearly loved, or working in the amazing backyard gardens he was known for. Cliff was great at many things, but most importantly, he was an amazing dad and Papaw. He leaves behind a grateful family. Cliff is survived by a daughter, Kendra Campbell of Muncie; four sons, Chad Campbell (wife, Holly) of Muncie, Brian Campbell (wife, Anne) of Yorktown, Kyle Campbell of Muncie, and Brandon Campbell (wife, Kristen) of Virginia; grandchildren, Sierra, Cody, Hailee, Payton, Dylan, Skyler, Mason, Braxton, and Olivia; two long-time friends, Tim and Marji King; and a beloved dog named Tinkerbell. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandy; his parents, Clifton Sr. and Alma; a brother, Woodrow Campbell; two sisters, Portia Boggs and Melissa Brooks; a nephew, Kevin Keeler; and a grandson, Tyler Campbell. Graveside services will be held for Cliff ‪on Monday, March 1, 2021, at 12:00 p.m., at Elm Ridge Memorial Park, ‪4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana 47304. Reverends Tim and Marji King will be officiating. ‬‬Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, masks are required as well as social distancing.‬‬ In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: Second Harvest Food Bank at curehunger.org.
