Dorothy was born on Sunday, March 20, 1960, the daughter of Charles “Bud” and Elizabeth “Betty” Wagner. She graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1978 where she was a cheerleader, the Homecoming Queen, the Prom Queen and on the gymnastics team. She never forgot her Indiana roots and kept in touch with family and friends “back home” all of her life.
She attended the University of Nebraska – Lincoln and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching in 1982. She was a member of the Phi Mu Sorority.
She married Jack Moore in 1981 and together they made their home in North Platte, Nebraska. After Jack’s untimely death, Dorothy moved to Hastings, Nebraska where she began her teaching career.
Several years later Dorothy moved to Lincoln, Nebraska to continue her education at UNL. She received an endorsement to teach Special Education, then moved to Wichita, Kansas and taught at Maize School from 1987-1988.
Dorothy returned to Lincoln, Nebraska and married William Goa, Jr. Together they raised two sons, William III (Trey) and Turner. Dorothy was a wonderful mother and her life centered around her two sons. She enjoyed watching Trey play hockey and Turner play soccer. She was very proud of them and the fine young men they became. There wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for them.
Upon her return to Lincoln, she began her lifelong career with Lincoln Public Schools as a Special Education Teacher in 1990. Teaching was her passion. She was a dedicated teacher who took a personal interest in her students and touched so many lives. She retired from teaching in 2020 and loved being retired as it gave her so much time to spend with family, friends and work on all her projects.
Dorothy was very competitive and loved playing tennis, softball and cards. She enjoyed yoga, crafting, all kinds of music, gardening, attending estate sales and refurbishing furniture. She was an avid supporter of Cornhusker sports and loved tailgating with friends. She loved all sports in general and obviously remained a loyal supporter of Indiana sports.
Dorothy had a heart of gold and she made friends everywhere she went. She lived life to the fullest and never took one day for granted. She was supportive and encouraging to all who came to her for advice or if they just needed someone to listen to them. Dorothy was always willing to lend a helping hand. She will be missed by all of us that knew her and loved her.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her first husband, Jack Moore; her father, Charles “Bud” Wagner and sister, Marie Wagner.
Her two sons survive her: William “Trey” Goa of Lincoln, Nebraska and Turner Goa of Boone, North Carolina; mother, Elizabeth (Betty) Wagner, Osgood, Indiana; brother, Jeff (Rhonda) Wagner, Wichita, Kansas; and sister, Janet Wagner, Osgood, Indiana.
