She was fighting a yearlong battle of breast cancer. She succeeded in getting it removed on October 3, 2023, but the treatments took a giant toll on her body. She had a seizure on November 5, 2023, that caused massive brain damage.
Elgenia, also known as Gena, was born in Anderson, Indiana on June 17, 1976 to James and Annie Jo Bennett. Both who passed when she was young. Gena was the biggest cheerleader of our lives. A woman you would want on your team rooting you on. She was very generous, thoughtful, and vigorous. She always stayed active, whether it was going to sport events to compete, attending social gatherings, or she was running around the neighborhood playing with her friends and family. She was always on the go.
Gena cared deeply about nature, animals, and her family. She has a collection of plants that she has kept thriving for years, close to a decade. She enjoyed creating crafts for holidays and special events. As well as creating jewelry and homemade household items. Her style was always new and refreshing. Always standing out in some way. A queen full of life and generosity. A friend that promotes growth and understanding. A family’s safe space. A phenomenal lady.
She is survived by three children and a grandson; Antéysa Bennett and Khadijah Bennett (Odin Bennett-Murray), along with a son as well; her life partner and step-kid, Steve Lynn Jr. and Kara “Oaklen” Lynn; two older brothers, James (Lisa) Jackson and Jeffery (Denise) Jackson; a little sister, DeAnna Bennett; her fur babies including Mozart, Sylvia, and Yoda; and a boat load of cousins, aunties, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
Cremation arrangements for Gena have been entrusted with Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana 47304.
