

Elizabeth Ellen (Cole) Bailey, age 96, Muncie, Indiana, went to be with our Lord on Monday, March 26, 2018. She was a long time resident of the Halteman Villas Condominiums. Before passing peacefully at home, she had been cared for by her family in the preceding weeks.
Elizabeth was born in Albion, Michigan, February 21, 1922, the daughter of Leonard M. and Estella Veronica Cole. They preceded her in death with Mr. Cole passing away in 1958 and Mrs. Cole in 1984. She also had a sister, Mary Jane Bonner of Muncie, who passed away in 2012. Mr. Cole was the superintendent of the Hayes Albion plant located there. The family returned to Muncie in 1930. She attended St. Lawrence School and was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church for many years. Elizabeth graduated from Muncie Central in 1939, where she often planned many of the school social activities. She worked at the Omar Bakery and Strand Theater in downtown Muncie. While employed in the payroll department at Chevrolet Muncie, she met and married Edward Bailey on May 30, 1946. Edward was a chemist at the plant, and remained there until his retirement in 1980. She left that job to begin raising a family, and a son, Michael, was born on November 7, 1948. Another son, Bruce was born June 3, 1959. As well as raising a family, Mrs. Bailey managed rental properties around Muncie for many years. During their retirement years they often spent the fall in South Carolina. When Edward became ill, she cared for him until his death in 2007.
Michael is married to Karen (Faull) Bailey of South Bend, Indiana and Bruce is married to Diane (Clawson) Bailey of Muncie, Christopher Bailey of Muncie and Andrew and wife Aimee Bailey of Indianapolis, Indiana. She is also survived by a niece, Sue Ellyn Disinger, and husband Larry Disinger of Muncie, as well as nephews, Donnie Bailey of Muncie and Larry Bailey of St. Louis, Missouri.
A private family service will be held at the Elm Ridge Mausoleum. Entombment will follow her services.
