Evelyn J. Huntington, 90, passed away peacefully June 12, 2026 surrounded by those who cared for her. Born on April 4, 1936, to Wilbur B. and G. Frances Dawson, Evelyn spent her early years in Indianapolis. She worked for L.M. Brown Abstract Company and later at the Speedway Branch of H.P. Wasson Company after her marriage and the birth of her son, Edgar.
Early in her life, Evelyn generously gave her time to organizations including Ball Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, New Castle State Hospital, and the Emily Flynn Home in Elwood. Her faith was central to her life, and she was an active member of North United Methodist Church in Indianapolis before later attending Hazelwood Christian Church and High Street United Methodist Church in Muncie.
For many years, Evelyn made her home in Muncie's McKinley neighborhood on North Elm Street. Whether preserving a memory, saving something useful, or finding a new purpose for a forgotten object, Evelyn found joy in collecting and caring for the things that spoke to her heart.
Evelyn will be remembered for her kind heart and gentle spirit. She never forgot a birthday, anniversary, or holiday and found joy in celebrating the special moments in the lives of those she loved. She cared deeply for her beloved cats, treasured her friendships, and was known for her quiet acts of kindness.
Evelyn is survived by her son, Edgar Earl Huntington Jr. of Indianapolis; her sister, Janet Smith; her brother, David Dawson of Portland, Oregon; and many friends and loved ones who will cherish her memory.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Huntington, who passed away in October 2021; her parents, Wilbur B. and G. Frances Dawson; and her sister, Barbara Estridge.
A heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at The Waters of Muncie and to the staff of Heart to Heart Hospice for the compassion, dignity, and comfort they provided during Evelyn's final days. Their kindness and support brought peace to Evelyn and to those who loved her.
Evelyn's gentle spirit, faith, and devotion to others will be remembered always, and she will be deeply missed by her family, friends, neighbors, and all whose lives she touched.
There will be no services at this time. Burial will take place at a later date in Elm Ridge Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the GoFundMe link below, to assist the family in final expenses and setting up a memorial marker for Evelyn and Edgar.
