She was a strong, independent woman who lived life on her own terms. Strong-willed and determined, she had a spirit all her own and a personality that made her uniquely special. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures, whether it was spending time painting by numbers, putting together jigsaw puzzles, camping with her husband, John, or tending to her garden.
Her home was always a welcoming place, and you could pretty much count on finding ice cream and candy ready to enjoy. It was one of the little things that made her home feel like home.
Above all else, she loved her family dearly. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart, and she treasured every opportunity to play with them, laugh with them, and make memories that will be cherished for years to come. Those who knew and loved her will always remember her distinctive little chuckle when she laughed, a sound that brought warmth and happiness to those around her.
She will be remembered for her independent spirit, her strong will, her love of family, and the many simple, beautiful ways she made life special. Though she will be deeply missed, the memories she created, the laughter she shared, and the love she gave will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Evelyn is survived by her sons, Bruce (Tina), Greg (Denise) and Mike (Terri); grandchildren, Abbey (Connor), John, Taylor (Angela), Corey (Evan) and Whitney (Dustin); great-grandchildren, Rose, Hailey, Ryker and Maggie.
She was preceded in passing by her parents; husband, John Venable; and siblings, Donald Kelbel, Ruth Raper and Violet Meyer.
Family and friends may gather from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM, Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 W. Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, IN, 47304. A funeral service to honor her life will begin at 12:00 PM. Burial will follow in Elm Ridge Memorial Park.
