Gary L. Cooper Sr.

Gary L. Cooper Sr., 83, Muncie, passed away Tuesday morning, September 26, 2023, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. He was born Sunday, July 21, 1940, in Muncie, the son of Dillman “Bud” Denver and Helen Mae (Osborn) Cooper. Gary loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing and bowling and even bowled a “299”. Gary was a member of the Fountain Square United Methodist Church and the American Legion. He was a former member of the Eagles Lodge. Mr. Cooper honorably served his country in the United States Navy. Survivors include his wife, Janet Cooper; children, Cindy Cooper, Gary Jr. (Terri) Cooper, and Steve (Pamela) Cooper; grandchildren, Gary III (Alisha), Aaron (Kricket), Jordan, Dustin, Cory (Bree), and Madison; six great-grandchildren; brother, Tom (Ginny); sisters, Joyce, Helen (Steve), and Diane; and a sister-in-law, Anita. His parents, Bud and Mae Cooper; and a brother, Richard, preceded him in death. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana 47304 with Pastor Steve Graves officiating. Burial will follow in Elm Ridge Memorial Park with Military Rites conducted by Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard.
