Obituary of Greta E. Dudley
Greta Elaine Dudley, 93, of Muncie, Indiana, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, January 26, 2024, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. She was born June 27, 1930, the daughter of Omer and Marie (Wolfe) Fisher. Greta graduated from Selma High School in 1948, and on November 4, 1949, she married the love of her life, Robert Dudley. They enjoyed almost 72 years of marriage before his death on November 1, 2021. After raising her children, Greta’s career began in the local school systems, where she worked as the Selma Middle School secretary and a cook at Wapahani High School. In 1974, she would become the secretary in the Work Control Center at the Physical Plant at Ball State University. Her outstanding service and work ethic at the university were rewarded by being named the runner-up for the Jane Morton Award before retiring in 1992. Her co-workers felt she should have received that award, so instead, they honored her with her own award. Greta was gifted at knitting and crocheting. She shared her talent with others by creating beautiful afghans for family members, dish towels for friends, and identical boxes of pink and blue baby blankets for each grandchild to use when they started their families. She and Bob enjoyed going to Lake Webster for many years with their children and grandchildren. Greta was an avid reader, loved cooking big meals, and adored having family get-togethers and dinners. Never one to turn down an opportunity to play her favorite slot machines, she enjoyed spending afternoons at the casino, and more often than not, she went home a winner! The most important aspect of Greta’s life was her family. Having grown up as an only child, she enjoyed her big family of 3 children, 6 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. Each family member could count on their annual birthday card and phone calls from Greta, which was always right on time. Her love and kindness were felt in her dedication to her family, and her big heart made everyone feel so special. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Mike (Cindy) Dudley of Selma, Jeff (Linda) Dudley of Selma, and daughter, Terri (Jim) Walker of Tipton; six grandchildren, Heath (Jessie) Dudley, McKensie (Adam) Sorrell, Jennifer (Shane) Sites, Megan (Michael) Planalp, Sarah (Brandon) Hazelbaker, and Matthew (Ali) Walker; fourteen great-grandchildren, Nolan, Daxton, and Tatum Dudley, Ethan Monroe, Kamden and AnnMarie Gibson, Gabrielle Sites, Noah, Tucker, Leah and Jensen Hazelbaker, Cohen and Alaina Planalp, and Harper Walker. Family and friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 1, 2024 at Elm Ridge Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 1, 2024, at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana 47304. Burial will follow at Elm Ridge Memorial Park.
