He was a proud 1949 graduate of Royerton High School. Herb was a lifelong farmer of Delaware County. He was a grandson of Rea and Nellie Riggin who founded Riggin’s Dairy in 1911. His mother Miriam Riggin Shideler passed in 1992 his father Lyman Shideler passed in 1991. Herb married Harriet Francis Moore in 1955.
They had four children, Scott Shideler (Beth) Todd Shideler, (Teala) Robyn Cunningham,(Brian) and Rock Shideler (Stacy).
Herb has eight grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Herb belonged to several organizations. He was a Charter Member of the Delaware County Kiwanis, a Charter Member of the Royerton Noon Optimist, and also a Lifelong Member of the Amateur Trapshooting Association. He was a member of the Scottish Right 32-degree Mason and a member of the Muncie Blue Lodge.
He proudly served his country in the US Air Force From 1951- 1954.
Herb made many lifelong friends. Many of whom he watched pass on before him. One of these very special people was Sue Pittenger, who we spent many cherished years with together.
Many thanks to the ladies who watched over and cared for him towards the end of his life.
Not only will we miss the long lines of traffic behind the white truck with the Walker in the bed, Him sitting for hours guarding the Riggin Brick Barn on Riggin Road or the occasional Concannon doughnut wrapped in a shop towel left in the seat of our cars …. So, let’s all raise a glass of Coke for Herbie.
Family and friends may call from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM, Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 W. Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana, 47304. A funeral service to honor his life will begin at 1:00 PM.
