Howard L. Davis, 83, of Anderson, passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at Bethany Pointe in Anderson. He was born on August 2, 1942, the son of Cecil Howard and Mary Helen (Thompson) Davis. On December 29, 1963, Howard married Carolyn White at Westport Methodist Church, and she survives.
Howard graduated from Royerton High School in 1960, where he was a member of the football team. He went on to work as the Battery Lab Supervisor at Delco Remy for 36 years, before retiring. In 1976, he used the first computer built for the battery lab at Delco Remy — sparking a love for technology that never waned. He embraced new gadgets and innovations with curiosity and enthusiasm, always eager to learn something new.
He had a passion for golf, fishing, and cheering on his favorite sports teams. Nothing made Howard prouder than talking about his children and grandchildren. Whether it was a small success or a major life milestone, he never missed a chance to brag on them — and he did so often, with a smile on his face and joy in his heart.
Howard was also a devoted family man; cherishing time spent with loved ones. He was the one behind the camera at family gatherings, the one fixing whatever was broken, and the first one to lend a hand — or a story — when needed. A true handyman at heart, he even built the cross that used to stand at the Daleville United Methodist Church, a testament to his skill and his faith.
Howard had a lifelong love of cars, and a wanderer's spirit. He fulfilled a dream of visiting all 50 states, taking his children with him, collecting stories and memories from every corner of the country.
Most admirably, Howard was a caregiver. When his parents fell ill, he stepped into the role with grace and compassion, never wavering in his dedication. His care was quiet but constant, full of love and respect.
A man of many talents and deep devotion, Howard lived a full and vibrant life marked by his love for adventure, family, and the simple joys that make life meaningful.
Howard is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Carolyn; children, Todd (Megan) Davis, LeAnn (Jonathan) Callahan, and Chad (Peggy) Davis; grandchildren, Audrey Davis, Zane Davis, Brock Callahan, Kyla Callahan, Whitney Davis, Alysia Davis, Cole Davis, Taylor Myers, Shelby Myers, and Harley Keller; and sister, Sheila Ponder.
He was preceded in passing by his parents; son, Michael Lee Davis; and brother, Tom Davis.
A funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, with Chaplain Rob Mifflin officiating. Burial will follow in Elm Ridge Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family from 11 am until the time of the service, on Sunday, at the funeral home. In memory, contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association are appreciated.
