He was born on August 3rd, 1957, the youngest son of Arthur and Harriet Spangler. Joe would graduate high school in 1975 and marry Kathy (Wilson) Spangler on August 14th, 1982. This August, they would have been married for 42 years.
Joe was a business owner and entrepreneur. Starting as a hobby in his garage, he built Dark Star Printing and Embroidery of Yorktown, Indiana, into a successful business which he ran for 43 years. But he was never satisfied with just one adventure. Joe would constantly immerse himself in side projects from blacksmithing, to beer brewing, to strawberry farming, and more. A true inventor, he was constantly looking for new and creative ways to make life better around his home and business. These are skills he used both to improve his own life and be a mentor to many others.
He is survived by his wife and his only child, Ryan Spangler. His parents preceded him in death.
Per Joe’s wishes, there will be no services. Memorial contributions can be made at www.secure.jhu.edu/form/givenow and please designate Institute of Cell Engineering under gift destination and mention Joe’s name under “in memory of”.
