A native of his beloved Yorktown, Indiana, he was born Monday, February 10, 1947, the son of John H. and Helen (Applegate) Myers. He graduated from Yorktown High School in 1965, the same year he married his sweetheart, Claudia (Norris) Myers, a marriage that would last fifty-two years.
"Pap" was more than simply a father and grandfather, he was the epitome of the family provider. At times he tirelessly worked three jobs in order for his family to live comfortably, which included cleaning the Yorktown Methodist Church while working full time at the Delco Battery Plant as a member of UAW Local #489 in Muncie and serving twenty years as a volunteer fireman which included ten years as Fire Chief in Yorktown. After retiring from Delco, Pap spent some wonderful years helping children at the Youth Opportunity Center.
Pap was a die-hard Democrat. His politics were important to him, and he worked many campaigns in Yorktown and Delaware County. He was elected to the post of Township Trustee for Mt. Pleasant Township and Precinct Committeeman for his local precinct. He also worked as Building Inspector for the town of Yorktown.
Pap loved food! He often spoke passionately about a good "hambooger" or hotdog, and he loved to eat almost everything, except a boiled egg. Along with food, Pap also enjoyed being surrounded by those he loved, including a long list of beloved pets.
John was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Marsha Eppert. There are several family members, friends, and animals awaiting his arrival, and they are celebrating.
Survivors include his wife, Claudia; their dog, Bella; children, Michelle (husband Wes) Utt, Jaime (husband David) Marcum, Brent (wife Candy) Myers, Jeff Myers; daughter-in-law, Heidi Messersmith; grandchildren, Austin, Madi, Jonathan, Corey, Abi, Derek, Grant, and Ayza; along with several nieces and nephews. He will miss his dear friends and "buddies" Ed Teal and Robbie Morrow.
Services will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 20, 2018, at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana 47304. Burial will follow in Jones Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the loving staff of the Angel Wing at Albany Health Care; the wonderful, caring doctors and nursing staff at Ball Memorial Hospital and to all of his friends at the Dialysis Center.
