November 12, 1959 – October 27, 2026
Judy Hulene (Roach) Ervin, age 66, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2026, at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana. Judy was born on November 12, 1959, to Dennis Ray Roach and Alta Virginia (Davidson) Short. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph L. Ervin (1998); her brother, Kenneth Roach; and her parents.
Judy was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who will be deeply missed. She leaves behind her daughter, Angie C. Short (Myrtle Beach, SC), and son, Chance Ervin (Muncie, IN), grandchildren Mariah Daniels and Taven Daniels, and great-grandson Elias Wayne Armstrong. She treasured her family roots, the history of her hometown, and the stories and traditions passed down through generations. She believed in remembering where you come from and preserving the connections that strengthen family and community.
Judy was a hardworking, resourceful, and unforgettable woman who built a diverse career as a writer, marketer, realtor, medical assistant, and employee of BorgWarner. She attended Ball State University and Ivy Tech Community College and was known not only for her intelligence and insight, but also for her advocacy for others and her ability to find solutions when people needed help most.
Affectionately known as "Strawberry" because of her red hair, Judy was recognized throughout the community for her wit, creativity, and unique personality. She fiercely loved her family and embraced many others as family, including two cherished friends, Omer and Amy, along with numerous other friends, relatives, and loved ones near and far.
Judy found joy in simple pleasures and made the most of everything she had. She loved canning, gardening, growing herbs and plants on her patio, sewing, painting, fishing, swimming at Summit Lake, and listening to WNAP “The Buzzard,” her favorite radio station. She loved to dance around her home with the radio playing, and enjoyed quiet moments at her favorite hidden spot by the river, where she went to think and reflect.
Though naturally private, Judy was always aware of those in need and quietly looked for ways to help. Whether connecting families with resources, providing food for others, or sharing from her own garden and pantry, she found meaningful ways to care for others. Frugal, inventive, and creative, she believed in using what she had, recycling what she could, and wasting very little.
More than anything, Judy will be remembered for who she was. She was witty, insightful, and wonderfully unique. She could bring laughter to any conversation, offer a fresh perspective, and make people feel valued, understood, and appreciated. Her strength, compassion, and unforgettable spirit left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Judy leaves behind more than memories. She leaves behind stories, laughter, lessons, lasting connections, and a legacy of kindness that will continue through those whose lives she touched. Her love for family, her appreciation for her community and its history, and her unmistakable personality will remain a part of the lives of those fortunate enough to have known her.
She will be remembered, celebrated, and deeply missed. The space she leaves behind can never truly be filled.
Rest peacefully, Judy. You were deeply loved, and you will never be forgotten.
