Karen Elaine Cox, 58, of Muncie, passed away on Sunday, May 9, 2021, after an unexpected illness. She was born in Muncie on Thursday, May 31, 1962, the daughter of Shirley (Herbert) Evans.

Karen lived in Muncie all her life, and worked for TK Constructors for fifteen years as the Facility Manager. At work she was “Mom” to her co-workers, and at home she was called “Mimi”, and her children and grandchildren were her world. After that, coffee was second in her life. Karen loved to greet people and chat anywhere she met friends. She loved to travel to visit her sister in Florida and go to the beach. Every year, she enjoyed going to her brother’s house for Thanksgiving dinner. She made the best mac-n-cheese, and she gave the best hugs in the world.

Karen is survived by her son, Rusty Rhonemus; daughter, Dusti Rhonemus; brothers, Lonny (Sandy) Whitaker, and Paul Whitaker (Tiffany Army); sister, Vicki (Randy) Rhonemus; grandchildren, Keaton Rhonemus, Maddeson Rhonemus, Allison Rhonemus, and Chase Songer; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Shirley Evans; brothers, Mark Whitaker, and Troy Whitaker; granddaughter, Abigail Rhonemus; grandparents, Donald and Dorothy Herbert; and aunt, Dorothy Nixon.

Private visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 15, 2021, at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana 47304. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, masks and social distancing are required.
