She was born on October 13th, 1958, the daughter of Terry Wilson and Laurie Scott. Kathy would graduate from Daleville High School in 1976 and receive a secretarial certificate from the International Junior College of Business in 1977. She would use it to work briefly as a legal secretary before leaving her job to co-found a business with Joe Spangler, whom she married on August 14th, 1982. Together, they would grow their business, Dark Star Printing and Embroidery, from a garage passion project into a Muncie staple that would operate successfully for 43 years. Ever industrious, Kathy would continue running the business on her own even after her husband died in 2023. She felt it was her life’s purpose to help others and saw the business as way to give jobs back to those who may have struggled to find work elsewhere.
Kathy is survived by her son and only child, Ryan Spangler; mother, Laurie Scott; and brother Bob Howard. She is preceded in death by her husband, her father, and two cherished cats: Tabby and OC.
Per her wishes, there will be no services. Memorial contributions can be made to the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation (https://www.cholangiocarcinoma.org/donate/) or the Yorktown Church of the Nazarene, where Kathy was a member.
She was cremated and her ashes will be spread in the same location as her husband’s: in the mountains of the great continental divide in Colorado. There they will be free, together, forever.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.elmridgefuneralhome.com.,
