Kitty Jean Shopher

Kitty Jean Shopher, 73, passed away Monday, August 28, 2023, at her home. She was born on February 11, 1950, the daughter of James and Hester Parsons. She married Thomas Shopher in 1971, and they shared forty-nine wonderful years together. Kitty was a devoted lover of cats, her home was often a sanctuary for furry companions, each one of them finding love in her caring heart. You could often find Kitty engrossed in a mystery novel. She loved to go boating, and golfing with her husband, and cherished every moment spent on the water or on the green. She loved to rummage and visit craft shows. Among Kitty’s fondest memories were her trips to the Great Smoky Mountains. But above all else, Kitty’s heart belonged to her beloved grandchildren, they were the light of her life. Kitty is survived by a son, Alan Shopher (wife, Christina); daughters, Jennifer Scarberry (husband, Jason), and Heather Kelross (husband, Jason); siblings, Mike Roderick (Denisa), Diana Lawhorn (Charlie), Toni Ragens (Tony), Lori McCullough, and Jackie McIntire; and grandchildren, Lauren Workman, Lucas Workman, Lyndsey Robinson, Jacob Shopher, Emily Shopher, Ashley Slusher, Olivia Slusher, Madison Welborn, Layla Welborn, Jeweliana Welborn, Teri Scarberry, Tyler Scarberry, Toby Scarberry; and several nieces and nephews. Kitty is preceded in death by her husband, Tom Shopher; parents; her brothers, Daryl, James, and Nick Parsons; and sister, Pam Williams. Visitation will be Friday, September 8, 2023, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana 47304. Funeral services will be Friday, September 8, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Elm Ridge Funeral Home. Rusty Clements will officiate. Graveside services will follow at Elm Ridge Memorial Park.
