Larry was born in Elwood, Indiana. He graduated from Wendell L. Willkie High School in Elwood and later attended Olivet Nazarene College for one year. He dedicated 36 years of service as a route salesman for Colonial Baking Company, followed by 20 years working in food services at Woodworth Hall at Ball State University. Larry especially loved his time at Ball State, where he enjoyed working alongside students and formed lasting friendships, many of which he maintained even after retirement.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Lois Cox Harting; his son, Mark Harting (wife, Robin); and his daughter, Julia Jordan (husband, Scott). He is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Louise Harting and Martha Cox Webb; five grandchildren, Cindi Satterly, Victoria Harting, Ashley Harting Ramsey (husband, Mark Ramsey), Jessica Jordan, and Rachel Combs (husband, Christian); and eight great-grandchildren, Jaedon Gregory, Kenna Sizemore, Alexis, Adrian, and Avery Harting, Marshall Combs, Everett Dean Combs, and Lio Jordan, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Vera Jean Wilburn Harting; his father- and mother-in-law, Fred and Irene Cox; and his brothers, Merle and David Harting and nephew Jeff Harting.
Larry had a heart for serving others. When his health allowed, he volunteered at Reach Yorktown and faithfully served as a deacon. His kindness, dedication, and servant’s heart left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
The family will receive friends on Saturday morning, January 3, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at New Life Presbyterian Church, 8000 W. River Road, Yorktown, IN 47396, with the funeral service to follow at 12:30 p.m.
