

Marilyn Jo McCord, aged 94, a cherished educator, daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother and great-great-grandmother passed away on August 29, 2025, following a brave fight against cancer.
Born on October 8, 1930, in Yorktown, IN, Marilyn devoted her life to fostering young minds and promoting a passion for learning. With a master’s degree in education from Ball State University, Marilyn dedicated four decades to teaching at Yorktown Elementary, where she was respected for her innovative teaching methods and unwavering commitment to her students. She was one of the pioneering teachers at the school to adopt technology and introduce her students to computers.
Following her retirement, she embarked on a new journey with the Sheriff’s Department, where she dedicated 28 years as a record keeper, ultimately retiring for the second time at the remarkable age of 93!
Marilyn was preceded in death by her mother, Lorraine Mahoney, her father, Rex Mahoney, and her beloved husband, Raymond (Gene) McCord. She is survived by her four children: Deb Norris, (her late spouse Fred), daughter Kacey Simmons and her husband William, stepson Bradford Norris, son John McCord and his wife Beth, along with their daughters Katherine and her husband Chris, and Emma McCord, son Bret and his wife Laurie, including her children, son Drake and his wife Danielle, daughter Paige, and son Trevor, and her devoted daughter Sarah (Ginni) McCord.
Marilyn will be fondly remembered by the numerous students whose lives she touched, as well as the officers in the sheriff’s department who held her in high regard. A celebration of life is scheduled for October to honor and pay tribute to her extraordinary life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the local animal shelter, a cause that was very close to her heart.
