Mark was the son of Lloyd E. Rucker and Mary Jean Rucker, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Steve Black and Mikell Rucker. He was a graduate of Burris Laboratory School and Ivy Tech Community College.
He is survived by his partner of 34 years, Patricia Campbell; his daughters, Crista Kendall and her husband, Anthony, Catherine Kristoff, and Barbara Sailors; his son, Mark Rucker Jr.; and his five grandchildren, Seth, Monte, Alyssa, Lucy, and Rory. He is also survived by his sister, Donna Hubbard, and her husband, Keith, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mark worked for several HVAC companies during a career that spanned more than 30 years. He was a hardworking man who knew how to fix things, build things, and had strong opinions about the way other people were doing both.
After retiring, Mark spent his final years enjoying the things he loved most. He camped, worked in his yard, attended car shows, built model cars, and spent time with his family. He had earned the right to enjoy life at his own pace, preferably without anyone telling him how to do it.
Mark could be cantankerous, ornery, and stubborn, qualities he wore with considerable skill. Beneath all of that was a deeply loving man who cared fiercely for his family. Those who knew him understood that affection did not always arrive wrapped in sentimental speeches. Sometimes it arrived as hard work, practical help, teasing, unsolicited advice, or a grumble from across the room.
He will be remembered for his work ethic, his love for his family, and the unmistakable personality he brought into every room. His family will miss him deeply, including the grumbling, the opinions, and all the small ways he made himself impossible to ignore.
