Michael Larsen

Michael had an amazing story to tell, accomplished in so many things. He was a fourth-degree Dan Zan Ryu Jujitsu black belt, a third-degree Judo black belt, a holistic massage therapist, world traveler, Danish citizen, a motorcycle enthusiast, and someone who never passed up good food, good beer, or good company. He was always ready to take a walk, visit the beach, or play a game of Uno. He loved music, reading, and cooking. He even knew how to do the dishes, laundry, and run the vacuum. All of this he accomplished while living with a visual impairment. He never let obstacles define him. Instead, he showed the world what determination, resilience, and heart truly look like.

Michael had a way of lighting up every room he entered. He had a wonderful smile. He was funny, compassionate, intelligent, selfless and fiercely loyal. He loved deeply, laughed often, and inspired everyone fortunate enough to know him. He embodied the spirit of a Viking - strong, fearless, and always fighting for something greater than himself.

Michael Larsen passed away in Indianapolis on Saturday, July 11, 2026, after a brief battle with pulmonary fibrosis. Even in death though, Michael continued to give. He became an organ donor and saved the lives of three people. He chose to give so that others might live. His lungs were donated for research. And amazingly, his corneas were healthy enough to be donated as well, allowing someone else the gift of sight. What an incredible legacy.

Michael may be gone from our sight, but he is far from gone. His heart, his generosity, and his spirit continue to live on through the people whose lives he touched. And maybe one day, without ever knowing it, our paths will cross with someone carrying a part of him. Maybe they will touch our lives in the same way Michael touched so many others.

For that, we will always be grateful. May your story live on.
