Mildred L. Barnhart

Mildred Louise Barnhart, 93, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2023, in Shelbyville, IN.
Millie was born on July 6, 1930, in Hanover, PA to Walter and Mildred (Strouse) Smith. Millie spent her childhood in Hanover where she graduated from Eichelberger High School in 1948. Following High School, she studied at Bowling Green State University.
Millie married Leland (Barney) Barnhart on July 1, 1951, in Hanover PA. During their marriage, they moved several times, and the family grew to include two children. They found their best home in Muncie, IN where they lived for 42 years. Millie held several jobs during her lifetime including school secretary for Yorktown High School for many years, she was also a bookkeeper and lawyer assistant. Millie enjoyed many things in life including being active with many things but loved to play cards, especially bridge and euchre. If anyone knew Millie, you knew her favorite word is “Whatchamacallit” which is something all of us will miss hearing.
Millie is survived by her son Jeffrey (Lynn) Barnhart and daughter Leigh Ann Barnhart (Troy Jones) and 3 grandchildren, Morgan Barnhart, Matthew (Caitlin) Barnhart, Aleigha Mason, and other family Mike and Beth Berghoff. Millie was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Leland (Barney). She also leaves behind her best friend George Glendenning whom she enjoyed sharing the past 6 years.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at the gravesite at Elm Ridge Memorial Park, 4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana 47304.
