Nickolas fulfilled his role as a protective brother to his older sister Brittany Dawn Routh, to Irish twin Mickenzy Jo Routh, and to youngest brother Lukas Alexander Routh. At the age of four, Nickolas told his mother about a dream he had who then shared it with his father. The story goes as him having a dream where he was walking with Jesus. His parents were taken aback as they had not introduced Jesus to their son yet. Nickolas's soul was reflected from an early age through the light in his brown eyes. He became a 6’4 gentle giant, who offered hugs that provided great comfort and a blanket of security. He was intelligent, graduating from Yorktown High School with honors. He also completed a Ball State calculus course while he was finishing his senior year in high school. Nickolas was energetic and had a competitive side that was channeled through running Track & Field. He also loved playing video games with his friends. His knowledgeable side that included niche topics and obscure facts and interests led him to having debates with others for fun. He aspired to become a chemistry or history teacher, though he taught those around him the best lessons in life. These include replacing fear with love, living in the present moment, being patient, showing one another grace, having compassion, prioritizing the importance of relationships, and listening to understand. Nickolas's sense of humor and wittiness was able to reach anyone in his vicinity; his laugh and goofiness made it hard to be upset. He could meet people where they were at, usually over a cup of coffee, and had the emotional intelligence to recognize and encourage potential in others. Nickolas was strong and resilient, getting right back up after falling and continuing to fight the good fight. He never allowed his circumstances to define him. Nickolas loved being in nature, often having spent his time near the river or nestled up in a hammock with a good book to escape the world, seeking out the stillness of the water or the sound of wind rustling the leaves on trees that reflected the peace he truly craved. On October 3, 2026, he met his mother in Heaven who embraced him with open arms.
