

He was born September 23, 1937 in Muncie and lived in Delaware County most of his life until he moved to Decatur Illinois with his daughter and son in law. He was the son of Elizabeth (Hottinger) Bunner and Paul Bunner. He graduated Royerton High School in 1955. He was a tremendous athlete competing in basketball, football, and track. He set many records in track and was inducted into the Delaware County Hall of Fame for Football and the 100 yard dash. He received a full scholarship from the University of Kentucky to play football, but left his freshman year to return to Muncie and marry the love of his life, Gloria Eller. He worked at Marhoefers meat packing for 22 years, then Irving Concrete for 16 years driving a mixer truck. He attended Center Chapel Church, Anthony Mason Lodge 171, and was a member of the Teamsters Union. He was a member of the Moose Lodge for many years. He enjoyed mowing his yard, farming, gardening, and most of all fishing. He could often be seen fishing at "Tony's Pond" or mowing his yard in one of his favorite Miller Lite T-shirts.
Survivors include his daughter Michelle Fancher (husband Shane) and his grandchildren, Aaron Fancher (wife Ema) , Emily Fancher, and his great grandsons Henry, Miles and Jack Fancher. Other siblings include Jack and Trudy Bunner and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years Gloria, who he loved and missed to his dying day.
Also deceased, his sister Shirley Crow, brother Paul (Scoop) Bunner, parents Elizabeth and Paul Bunner, and grandparents George and Nina Bunner.
Richard loved his family and friends. He was an incredibly hard working and great man. He will be forever missed.
Visitation and Services will be held at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 West Kilgore Ave, Muncie, IN 47304 on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. Visitation will be from 11:00 to 12:00 at which time Services will begin with Rev. Dr. Rusty Clements officiating. Private entombment will be at Elm Ridge Memorial Park Mausoleum following the service.
