Bob graduated from Central High School in 1967 and attended Ball State University from 1967 to 1968.
As a teenager, Bob was both active in sports and music. Instrumental in forming the local band “Purple Haze”, they performed not only at local high schools but also at local colleges…Bob also sang.
Retiring from Steak 'n Shake in July of 2015, Bob always remembered the years spent there fondly. Being in management, Bob believed in excellent training and encouragement as a way of supervising rather than threats and intimidation. As a result, those who worked as his crew not only respected him as their manager but also loved the friend that he always became and most continued to keep in touch. Known as ‘dad’, it was not unusual to see one of his crew throw their arm over his shoulder even though most towered over him.
Being the dutiful and faithful patriotic American that Bob was, he served his country in Vietnam from 1969 to 1970 when he was honorably discharged.
Bob was blessed with the wonderful gift of compassion which served him well as he and his wife rescued abused and abandoned pets finding them their very own forever home.
Bob was greeted in heaven by his father, Gene Greenwalt and his mother, Loisanne. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Brenda Sue (Bennett) Greenwalt.
Always putting others before himself, Bob was known for his charitable and generous nature; making each and every life that he touched feel special. As a disabled veteran himself, Bob devoted himself to helping other veterans as an officer in the Anderson Chapter of the DAV (Disabled American Veterans), and as a Certified Service Officer also with the DAV. After joining the Veteran’s Coffee Club hosted at the Muncie Senior Center, Bob, along with two friends, started a Veteran’s Coffee Club in Anderson. He helped many other veterans receive the benefits that they deserved.
He was a very special person and will be sadly missed.
