

Robert Wayne “Bob” Tyler, Sr., 78, of Muncie, IN, went home to be with the Lord on May 21, 2026. He survived a major heart attack one year ago on May 19, 2025, and spent the last year enjoying visits from family and friends as his body struggled to recover. Bob was born in Bolivar, NY on April 25, 1948, to the late L. Wayne and Irene Tyler. He grew up in Lakewood, NY and graduated in 1966 from Southwestern Central High School.
Bob attended Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC for one year before transferring to Indiana Institute of Technology in Fort Wayne, IN. He met his wife, Sally (Jost) in Fort Wayne while she was attending International Business College. They were married on August 2, 1969, in Bluffton, IN.
In 1970, Bob transferred to Tri State (Trine) University in Angola, IN, where he graduated in 1972 with a degree in Civil Engineering. Over the course of his career, Bob enjoyed working for a variety of cities, counties, and private enterprises. He also operated his own engineering and land surveying company, R.W. Tyler & Associates for many of those years. Bob held Professional Engineer and Land Surveyor licenses in Illinois, Indiana, New York, and Ohio.
Bob and Sally have three children – Rob (Julie) Tyler of Yorktown, IN; April (Doug) Marcum of Muncie, IN; and Andrew (Kristen) Tyler of Dayton, OH. They are blessed to have nine grandchildren - Maddie and Nate Tyler, Ruthie, Lily, Anna, and Ella Marcum, and Ian, Annie and Alec Tyler and one great grandchild, Cooper.
Bob has three sisters, Marilyn (Steve) Adye, who preceded him in death, Carol (Terry) Cagwin, and Laurie (Michael) Kelly who live in Florida, and one brother, Don (Debbie) Tyler of Angola, IN.
Bob was an avid golfer and hunter, a passionate Buffalo Bills fan, and an active member of University Christian Church. He enjoyed talking politics, following his favorite sports teams, and attending as many of his grandchildren’s events as possible.
Pastor Michael McDonough will be officiating the service at Elm Ridge Funeral Home and Memorial Park in Muncie, IN on Monday, June 15 at 12:00 pm with visitation beginning at 11:00 am. Friends and family are also invited to calling hours on Sunday, June 14 from 3:00 – 6:00 pm also at Elm Ridge in Muncie, IN.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Memorial Fund in memory of Bob Tyler at University Christian Church, 2400 N. Nebo Rd., Muncie, IN 47304.
