Obituary
Born September 4, 1921 to Pete and Lillie (Swanner) Steele in Laurel County, Kentucky, went home to be with the Lord on Friday July 10, 2015 at Hospice of Hamilton. In 1936 the Steele family moved to Hamilton and on October 2, 1938 he married his loving wife Zuma (McCracken) Steele. Three children were born to this union. He served our country in the U.S. Army during WWII. Mr. Steele worked for the Champion Paper Mill for 22 years and then was self-employed opening Steele's Garage on Ross Avenue in Hamilton. Repairing vehicles came easy for him and he loved his job and serving people. He also had a deep love for music especially Country, Bluegrass and Gospel and was self-taught to play the Steel Guitar, which was his specialty, but could also play the Acoustical Guitar and a Dobro. Dad loved his family, God, Church, Country, hunting, old cars and motorcycles, chocolate ice cream and of course peppermint candy. He was known as the "Candy Man" because he loved giving people his candy mints. He loved to entertain with family and friends which brought happiness and joy to our home. Mr. Steele gave his life to Jesus Christ in 1951. He was a member of Richmond Road Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife Zuma and son Don Edmond, sister Pearl Dickman, brothers, Craig and Bob Steele. He is survived by two daughters, Carolyn (Edgar) Lee of Fairfield Twp. and Bobby (Tony) Marconi of Monroe; three grandchildren, Joel Lee, Leslie (Rev. Mike) Botts and Bill (Angela) Wills; eight great grandchildren, Joshua, Kaleb and Brianna Botts, Ashley (Ben) Wilson, Bryce Lee, Talia, Olivia and Evan Wills and four great great grandchildren, Deacon, Caiden and Addison Wilson and Sophia Lee; siblings, Leona Gabbard, Sue (Jerry) Mistyurick, Dwight (Janice), Fred, and Logan (Gail) Steele; many nieces and nephews.
