Shirley June Spurlin

Shirley June (Dunagan) Spurlin, 81, passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2020, at I.U. Health Ball Memorial Hospital. She was born on Thursday, August 25, 1938, the daughter of Thomas Dunagan and Nancy (Maxwell) Dunagan.

Shirley was married to the love of her life, Herbert Spurlin, for forty nine years. They had three daughters, Brenda, Sonya, and Angela. Shirley spent the early years of marriage at home taking care of the children and keeping house. She later got a job at McDonalds and worked for thirty five years. Shirley attended Riverview Church of the Nazarene for twenty years before moving to White Chapel Congregational Christian Church. She was a Sunday School teacher for many years. Shirley loved reading her Bible, watching the Hallmark Channel, and doing word search puzzles. She was an extrovert that loved being around people and loved her family.

Survivors include her three daughters, Brenda Spurlin, Sonya Carter (husband, Chris), and Angela Spurlin; brother, Thomas Dunagan (wife, Sherry); brother-in-law, Jim Spurlin (wife, Bonnie); sisters-in-law, Barb Dodd, Maxine Spurlin, and Sue Huddleston (husband, Royce); grandchildren, Dustin Carter and Michael Spurlin; and one great-grandchild, Zach Carter; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert; her parents; her brother, EJ Dunagan, brothers-in-law, Don Spurlin, Haskil Bertram, and Sam Dodd; sister, Evalyn Bertram; and one grandson, Andrew Carter.

Calling hours will be Monday, July 6, 2020, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana 47304.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, followed by graveside service at Garden of Memory, 10703 IN-3, Muncie, IN 47303. Reverend Chris Carter will officiate.

Due to the Covid19 pandemic a mask is required at the funeral home, and please remember to be safe and adhere to the six foot social distancing.
