Steven Wesley Himes

Steven was born in Muncie, Indiana, on August 14, 1948, to Francis Himes and May Lou (Bales) Himes. Steven’s dad died at a young age and his mother later married Joseph Manifold.

Steven graduated from DeSoto High School in 1966 and remained close to several classmates. After high school, he served 2 years in the Army stationed in Germany. Steven then went to work at Westinghouse and later spent many years working at Thrive Credit Union (previously IC FCU) and eventually retired from there.

Steven was always willing to help anyone with anything they needed done, and he also never missed a chance to get together with family and friends. Whether it was Halloween or Graduation parties at his house or playing football in the snow or just hanging out. Steve also was a big fan of oldies music and loved to dance. He spent many years bowling, working on lawn mowers and taking his classic cars to car shows. He also attended countless high school and college events that his family was involved in.

Steven was preceded in passing by his parents and stepdad.

Steven is survived by his siblings, Michael (Anita) Himes, Thomas Himes and Mary Smith; nephews, Brad (Angie) Himes and Wade Himes; nieces, Jill (Fara) Tweedy and Shawn (Jess) Neal; several great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews and many cousins. He is also survived by an uncle, John Himes.

Family and friends may gather from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Thursday, July 23, 2026, at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana, 47304. A private family service to honor his life will follow.
