Wallace Eugene Lightner Jr.

Wallace “Wally” Eugene Lightner Jr., 77, Muncie, passed away Monday morning, June 3, 2024, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. He was born Friday, September 27, 1946, in New Castle, Indiana, the son of Wallace Eugene Sr., and Virginia (Soja) Lightner. Wally and his family moved to the Muncie area when he was very young. He graduated from Muncie Southside High School in 1964. After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force and served his country until 1968. He married Rosalyn Rench on July 14, 1973. Wally enjoyed fishing and golfing. His memberships include American Legion Post #19 and St. Lawrence Catholic Church. He worked most recently for National Write Your Congressman. Wally and Rosalyn enjoyed spending winters in their Florida home after they retired. Survivors include his wife, Rosalyn (Rench) Lightner; sons, Zachary Lightner and Jonah Lightner; brother, James (wife, Lynda) Lightner; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace Eugene Sr., and Virginia (Soja) Lightner. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, June 9, 2024, at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana 47304. Military Rites will be conducted by Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard. Family and friends may call from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Elm Ridge Funeral Home.
