He was born Saturday, June 27, 1942 in Muncie, the son of Lloyd and Crystal (Barton) Kirby. He was a Reserve Police Officer for six years and then Mr. Kirby served on the Muncie Police Department for thirty-six years, retiring with the rank of Patrolman. With the police department he was on the Motorcycle Patrol, Bicycle Patrol, Narcotics Agent, Traffic Division, and Wilson Middle School Security Guard and was one of the founding fathers of Blue Knight Indiana #1. His passion in life was helping children and many kids in the Muncie area knew him as “dad” or “grandpa”. William also loved to ride his Harley.
Survivors include his wife, Naomi Kirby; children, T.G. (wife Wendi) Kirby, Christopher (wife Nikki) Kirby, Amber Kirby, and Megan (husband David) Fogt; eleven grandchildren, Spencer (fiancé Megan), Stormie (husband Michael), McKenzie (fiancé Zach), Chelsie (husband Austin), Kameo, Kourbon, Quinn, Kalieb (fiancé Makenzie), Tyler, Denise, and Carter; and four great-grandchildren, Gracelynn, Memphis, Daisy, and Daden.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Crystal Kirby.
Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 8, 2018, at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana 47304 with Pastor Mark Haskett officiating. Private entombment will follow in Elm Ridge Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Family and friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Elm Ridge Funeral Home.
