

Billy Max Puckett, age 88, of LaVergne, TN, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday evening, July 19, 2017. He was the son of the late A.C. Puckett, Sr. and Willie Ethel Wheeler Puckett. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 32 years, Rose Ellen (Posey) Puckett and brother, John Morris (Martha) Puckett of Murfreesboro and brother in law, George Perry of LA. He is survived by his second wife of 20 years, Anna Mae Neal Williams Puckett; daughters, Lisa Puckett Thurman and her husband Tony of Smyrna and Joy Puckett Francis and her husband Derek of Smyrna; son, Michael Williams (Gwen) of Murfreesboro; brothers, A.C. Puckett, Jr and his wife Dottie of LaVergne and Harold Wayne Puckett and his wife Jewel of Jackson, TN; sister, Eleanor Puckett Perry of Monroe, LA; seven grandchildren, Caleb Thurman (Lauren), Leah Thurman, Blake Pope, Roselyn Pope, Brian Williams(Amy), Chad Williams and Abby Williams Wilson (Spencer); five great grandchildren, Jesse, Gracie, Abby, Sadie and Sawyer.
Services to celebrate Mr. Puckett will be at Three O’clock the afternoon of Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Roselawn Funeral Home with Tony Leonard officiating. Placement will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
Max was a member of Mt. View Baptist Church for 77 years and was a deacon for over 50 years. He was a 1946 graduate of Smyrna High School and then attended MTSU and UT Extension in Nashville. In 1951, he went to The Reisch American Auction School in Mason City, Iowa. He was very passionate about his work, which was also his hobby, as an auctioneer. His auctioneer license number was #4, which he earned on November 2, 1967 and was retired on January 31, 2012. In 1974, he was awarded the SME Distinguished Sales Award. He was also awarded the Nashville Board of Realtors Million Dollar Sales Award from 1974-1979 and again from 1986-1991. He was honored by the citizens of Rutherford County by receiving the Ruthie Award for favorite Auctioneer (LaVergne) in 2008. He served as a Gideon for a few years and was a Sgt. in the National Guard. He loved working in his yard, taking road trips with his grandchildren, laughing and meeting people and making them laugh.
Pallbearers will be grandsons-Caleb Thurman, Blake Pope, Brian Williams, Chad Williams, nephews-Mark Puckett, Anthony Puckett, John Morris Puckett, Brian and Bruce Perry, Barry Puckett, Jason Chance, Steve Kemp and Spencer Wilson. Elders and Deacons of Mt. View Baptist Church will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. Donations may be made in memory of Mr. Puckett to Mt. View Baptist Church Building Fund. Love and appreciation are extended to Asera Care Hospice, Risa and Vickie, for all the love and care they gave Max and to Kenneth and Irene Tew for all their love and support.
