It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Dean Paul Hamrick, who died on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at his home in Smyrna, Tennessee, at the age of 81. He will be remembered as a beloved and cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather—steadfast in faith, gentle in spirit, and devoted in the ways that matter most.
Dean is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Edna Hamrick; daughters, Heather Hamrick McDevitt and her husband Ken, and Suzanne Bryles and her husband Tommy; grandsons, Joshua McDevitt, Taylor Bryles, Tommy Bryles, Jr. and his wife Sammantha, and Trent Bryles; great grandchildren, Christian Taylor-Bryles, Londyn Bryles, Korey Bryles, and Tommi Samone Bryles; great-great-grandson, Christian Taylor-Bryles, Jr.; brothers, David Hamrick (deceased wife Diane Hamrick) and Ken Hamrick and his wife Izzy Ragland; nieces, nephews, and many other cherished family members. Dean was preceded in death by his father, Oliver Paul Hamrick, Jr. and his mother, Gayla White Hamrick, and his sister, Margaret Hamrick.
A most Godly man, Dean lived as a practicing and professing follower of Jesus Christ. His faith was not confined to words alone; it was evident in his servant’s heart and the patient, compassionate, and thoughtful way he lived his life every day. He was generous without fanfare, kind-hearted without condition, and resilient through life’s demands—choosing gratitude over complaint and offering encouragement with quiet consistency. He loved people and truly lived what he preached.
Dean’s devotion was especially clear in the love he poured into his family. In simple, memorable acts—like bringing breakfast in bed and flowers for Edna and his daughters—he made those closest to him feel valued and cared for. He had a heart and passion for children and wanted them to know about Jesus. He took sincere joy in teaching them in Sunday School for many years.
Dean also found joy in the everyday gifts of fellowship and music. He loved following University of Alabama football with his grandson Joshua and son-in-law Ken, and he appreciated worship music deeply. He especially liked songs by Toby Mac. He enjoyed playing golf with his son-in-law Tommy, who also taught Dean how to play dominoes. Dean enjoyed crocheting. He enjoyed spending time with his grandsons, Joshua, Taylor, Tommy Jr. and Trent, and having long discussions about life. They listened well and learned from Dean's wisdom, as he always lifted them up and was their mentor. Many will remember his familiar sayings, offered with calm perspective and warmth: “Have a good day anyway,” and “My job is to love my wife, and my curse is to work by the sweat of my brow.” In those words, as in his life, Dean’s steady faith and gentle humor met the world with grace.
Dean worked for the same company, Ivey Mechanical, for 45 years. He was a hard worker and instilled that same work ethic into his daughters, sons-in-law, and grandsons. He was dedicated and determined. He balanced work and family well and always knew that his family came before work.
A service to celebrate Mr. Hamrick will be at Ten O’clock the morning of Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at Roselawn Funeral Home in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, with burial to follow in Mapleview Cemetery in Smyrna, Tennessee. Friends are cordially invited to visitation on Tuesday evening October 6, 2026, from Four O’clock till Eight O’clock and Wednesday morning October 7, 2026 from Nine O’clock till the service begins at Ten O’clock.
Dean will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for a life marked by faithfulness, generosity, patience, and a gentle devotion that blessed others.
