Edd C. Comer, age 81, of Smyrna, Tennessee, passed away the evening of Friday, October 9, 2026, at his home. Born March 2, 1945, Edd was the son of the late Ed and Edna Edwards Comer, Jr. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Judy A. Comer, in 2017.
Edd will be remembered as a beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather—steady in love, gentle in spirit, and generous in ways both seen and unseen. Compassionate and kind-hearted, he carried himself with patience and honesty, offering thoughtful guidance marked by quiet wisdom. Often a quiet man, Edd understood the value of measured words; when he spoke, it was worth listening.
A founding member of Parkway Baptist Church in Smyrna, Tennessee, Edd lived his faith with constancy and care. He served as a longtime Sunday School teacher, leading classes for children as well as senior adults, and he was a faithful Deacon. Above all, he was a loving Christian father whose selfless devotion to family was evident in the pride and joy he took in his grandsons and great-grandchildren.
Edd was a hard-working man throughout his life. He was the longtime owner of Edd C. Comer Construction Company and also served as the Director of Maintenance for the Building and Grounds Department for the Town of Smyrna, Tennessee. His work reflected the same reliability and integrity that defined his life, and his generosity extended beyond his own circle—he often gave anonymously to causes that mattered to him.
Edd proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, with time spent in that theatre—an enduring testament to his sense of duty and steadfast character.
He is survived by his sons, Ed Comer and Scott Comer and his wife Kim; grandsons, Tyler Comer and his wife Sarah and Lukas Comer and his wife Chloe; great-grandchildren, Beckett Comer and Corinne Comer and one great-grandchild soon to arrive; and sisters, Adona Gossett and Gaylon Shine and her husband Danny; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate Mr. Comer will be at Eleven O'clock on the morning of Thursday, October 15, 2026, at Roselawn Funeral Home with burial to follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends are cordially invited to visitation Wednesday evening, October 14, 2026, from Four O'clock until Eight O'clock.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Alive Hospice in memory of Mr. Comer. That would make him very happy!
