Gary Leonard Gilliam, age 59 of Smyrna, TN passed away on Monday, August 5, 2019 in Murfreesboro, TN. Gary was born in Tullahoma, TN and was the son of Leonard and Stella Buckner Gilliam. Gary is survived by his wife of 39 years Aletha Purdy Gilliam of Smyrna; son Brian M. Gilliam of Murfreesboro, TN; mother Stella Gilliam of Murfreesboro, TN; sisters Melinda Gilliam of Murfreesboro, TN and Pam Foster (David) of Lebanon, TN; brothers -in-law Jim Purdy (Virginia) of Detroit, MI and Wes Purdy (Michelle) of Bluewell ,WV; sister-in-law Beth Evans(Greg) of Rockvale,TN. Gary will be greatly missed by many nieces and nephews from the Purdy-Gilliam families and his best friend Jim Whitehead. Services to celebrate Mr. Gilliam’s life will be held at Twelve noon on the afternoon of Saturday, August 17, 2019 at Roselawn Funeral Home in Murfreesboro.TN. Gary graduated from Smyrna High School in 1977. Mr. Gilliam was retired from the Nissan automotive plant in Smyrna. Gary loved all things outdoor especially hunting, fishing, and camping. Gary enjoyed riding motorcycles and loved Ford Mustangs. Mr. Gilliam was known to be able to fix or repair anything. Gary was preceded in death by his father Leonard Gilliam.
