Gracie Massey Sullivan, age 88, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, passed away at her home, on Saturday morning, November 15, 2025. She was the daughter of the late Pierce Hilton and Lois Gregory Massey and she was the wife of the late Gerald Sullivan, who passed away in 2020.
Gracie is survived by her sons, Morris Sullivan and Eric Sullivan and his wife Teri; sister, Sue Smith; brother, John Massey and his wife Ruby; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by siblings, Evelyn Beard and her late husband Vernon, Betty Jean Rankin and her late husband Tom, Jack Massey and Anne Massey.
Gracie enjoyed seeing and doing new things and this led to her many travels to all 50 states and many countries. She would literally whistle while she worked and work she did. She, along with her sister, had a garden every year. She would cut trees and brush, mow grass, dig a fish pond and dig tons of rock to build sidewalks, patios and rock walls. She taught Sunday School for years and entertained her students with homemade play dough and later spent many years keeping babies in the nursery during Church services. She offered common sense advice to her sons from everything on how to manage money, interactions with people and set the example on living a Christ-centered life. Gracie was always quick to laugh and say or do something silly to make others laugh.
Gracie was a very good cook and for many years would spoil everyone with all the different Christmas Candies she would make.
After graduating from Walter Hill School, Gracie attended school to be a Comptometer Operator. She would laugh when telling that their instructor would tell them that if they could operate a comptometer, they would always have a job. She did for several years working at Western Electric. She later worked for Metro Public Schools in the Food Service Division at Apollo Junior High and Antioch High School retiring after more than 25 years.
Services to celebrate Gracie will be at Two O’clock the afternoon of Friday, November 21, 2025, at Roselawn Funeral Home with burial to follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday evening from Five O’clock until Seven O’clock and Friday afternoon from One O’clock until the service begins at Two O'clock.
