Leslie “Les” Karns, age 88, of Smyrna, TN passed away the morning of Saturday, September 15, 2018. The son of the late Floyd Hiram and Bertha Viola Hanks Karns, he is survived by his wife, Hildegard Schmolke Karns; sons, Robert Karns (Debbie) of Smyrna and Donnie Karns of Jacksonville, FL; daughter, Diana Karns Cary (Josh) of Smyrna, sisters, Gladys Passmore of Painted Post, NY and Neva Kahler of Meadville PA; grandson, Joshua Karns; granddaughters, Heather Lucht Hunstable, Eliza Cary and Erin Cary; great grandchildren, Theo and Vega. He was preceded in death by daughter, Nora Karns Lucht.
Leslie proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, and after 22 years of service, retired as Senior Master Sergeant.
He was a dispatcher at Jim Reed Chevrolet, retiring after 25 years. He was a long-time faithful member of Smyrna First United Methodist Church where he served in various roles including visitations, which were very dear to him. He was an avid reader, a gardener, a loyal Vanderbilt fan, liked sports and playing cards, was a fierce competitor, especially when it came to golf, and he loved to make people laugh.
Friends are cordially invited to visitation on Tuesday afternoon, September 18, 2018 from One O’Clock to Three at the Smyrna United Methodist Church. The service to celebrate Mr. Karns will begin at Three O’Clock with Rev. Lloyd Mabry officiating.
Placement with military honors will take place at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Murfreesboro.
