With broken hearts, we announce the passing of Marty Vaughn Agee, who left us unexpectedly but peacefully on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, at the age of 65.
Born on February 11, 1961, in Linden, Tennessee, Marty was the son of the late Harry Agee and Reba Hickerson Agee. In a heartbreaking turn of events, his mother passed away in the same hospital just 22 hours before him. Losing them both so close together is a pain that words can hardly express, and their family is left trying to make sense of two tremendous losses in such a short time.
Marty leaves behind his children, Amanda Agee, Elisabeth Agee, and Connor Agee; his precious granddaughter, Lily Agee; his sister, April Aderhold and her husband, Eddie; his nieces, Crystal Sharp, Jessica Lambert, and Jordan Johnson; his nephews, Jamesallen Johnson and Christopher Aderhold; and countless friends who were fortunate enough to share a part of his life.
Marty was the kind of person who could make a lasting impression without ever needing to be the center of attention. He had an easygoing nature, a good heart, and a way of making people feel at ease. He was patient, thoughtful, and often more concerned about others than himself. But anyone who knew Marty also knew he had a sense of humor all his own. He loved to laugh, loved to have a good time, and had a way of turning an ordinary day into a memory worth keeping. He was the kind of friend who gave you stories to tell and something to laugh about long after the moment had passed.
A graduate of Middle Tennessee State University and Martin Methodist College, Marty found something special in his work at Agee's Sporting Goods in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, where he worked for his late uncle, L.D. It was more than just a job to him; it was something he genuinely enjoyed.
Marty loved his rock and roll, especially Pink Floyd, and he had a passion for sports that stayed with him throughout his life. Football held a special place in his heart, particularly when it came to his San Francisco 49ers. Whether he was watching a game, talking sports, enjoying music, or simply spending time with friends, Marty appreciated the things that made life enjoyable.
He was a loyal friend, a familiar presence, and someone who wanted the people around him to have a good time. He enjoyed making people laugh, lifting spirits, and finding reasons to enjoy the moment. Those little things may seem ordinary while someone is here, but they become some of the most treasured memories when that person is gone.
There is no easy way to say goodbye to someone whose place in our lives can never truly be filled. Marty's passing leaves behind heartache, unanswered feelings, and a lifetime of memories that will now mean more than ever. He will be missed in the everyday moments, in the laughter shared among friends, in the songs he loved, in the excitement of football season, and in all the little things that will forever bring him to mind.
Marty's life was made up of family, friendship, laughter, music, sports, and the countless moments that made him who he was. Those who loved him will carry those memories forward, remembering not just that he was here, but what it felt like to know him.
Rest easy, Marty. You will be missed more than words can say, remembered in more ways than you will ever know, and never forgotten by those whose lives you touched.
Arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced once they have been finalized.
