Rev. Lt. Col. (Ret.) Donald C. Porter, age 90, passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Adams Place. Col. Porter was the son of the late Clare and Margaret Schick Porter. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Barbara Jean Porter, brother Richard Porter, and son David Porter. He is survived by his sister, Margaret Jones; daughters, Cindi Sigmon and her husband Mark and Sharon Stanczak and her husband David; son, Kenneth Porter; 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Funeral services to celebrate Col. Porter will be at Two O’clock the afternoon of Monday, January 11, 2021 at Franklin Road Baptist Church, 3124 Franklin Road, Murfreesboro, Tennessee with placement with Military Honors to follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends are cordially invited to visitation also on Monday at the church from Twelve noon until the service begins at Two O’clock. Col. Porter was a graduate of West Point Military Academy and served his country in the Army until his retirement in 1974. He also received his M.Div. and ordination in 1978. He served as minister for 4 years at Indian River Baptist Church in Indian River, MI and taught math and Bible at Genessee Christian High School in Flint, MI for 16 years. He was a loyal member of Franklin Road Baptist Church. Col. Porter was a loving and faithful husband, father, and grandfather. He was deeply loved and respected as a man of God and a dedicated prayer warrior. He was a faithful friend of many. He was a big sports fan with special allegiance to The Ohio State, Alabama and the Cleveland Browns and was an avid lifelong bowler. He will be greatly missed but his impact in this world will live on forever.
