Walton Lee “Walt” Kaczenski, age 66, of Lavergne, Tennessee, passed away at his home on Sunday, September 20, 2026. Born April 11, 1960, Walt lived with a steady sense of purpose—known for showing up, putting in the work, and seeing things through with the kind of discipline and toughness that earned respect in every setting he entered.
Walt served his country in the United States Air Force, carrying forward the same determined spirit that shaped the rest of his life. In his work and in his home, he was a man who believed in doing the job right the first time—dependable to the core, unwavering in his standards, and never shy about holding an opinion when it mattered. That resolve was evident in the way he built and fixed with his own hands: a highly skilled carpenter, woodworker, and craftsman who took pride in quality and precision.
A couple of months ago, Walt retired from public work, and he put his energy into what he had long envisioned—finishing the dream workshop at his home. He could also work on and repair cars when necessity called, approaching each task with the same practical focus and stubborn determination that defined him. Whether shaping wood, turning a wrench, or stepping into the kitchen, Walt brought care and competence; he enjoyed cooking and was great at it, finding satisfaction in work done well and shared simply.
Walt also made room for the things he loved. He supported the Tennessee Titans in good times and bad, loyal through every season. He enjoyed time fishing and loved taking his sons along—moments marked by patience, presence, and the quiet steadiness that so often spoke louder than words.
Walt was preceded in death by his father, Stanley Kaczenski, and his brother, Terry Kaczenski. He is survived by his mother, Gretchen Patterson; sons, Joseph Kaczenski and Justin Kaczenski (fiance' Terrea); grandson, Jaxon Kaczenski; sister, Debbie Jean Mabrey; and nieces, Kriztina Leigh Lombard and Taylor Allyce Mabrey.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at Roselawn Funeral Home, 5350 NW Broad Street, Murfreesboro, Tennessee 37129, followed by a service to celebrate Walt at 6:00 pm at the same location. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, October 23, 2026, at Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, 7931 McCrory Ln, Nashville, Tennessee 37221.
In remembering Walt, those who knew him will recall a man of grit and conviction—hard-working, disciplined, and dependable—whose legacy is found in the things he built, the standards he kept, and the family he loved.
