

A Legacy of Courage and Dedication
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Smitty, a retired Marine, loving husband to Christine Smith and devoted father, on Thursday, July 20th 2023. His life was a testament to unwavering courage, steadfast commitment that knew no bounds.
Born on February 11th 1941, Smitty entered this world with a spirit of determination that would come to define his remarkable journey. Growing up in Saint Louis, he developed a sense of duty and responsibility that would later lead him to a distinguished career in the United States Marine Corps.
At a young age, Smitty felt a calling to serve his country. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on September 1955, embarking on a journey that would take him to places far and wide, testing his strength and resolve. His time in the military was marked by a dedication to excellence and an unwavering commitment to the principles he held dear.
Throughout his 20 years of service, Smitty rose through the ranks, demonstrating exceptional leadership and courage under fire. He faced challenges with unwavering determination, earning the respect and admiration of his fellow Marines. His bravery and selflessness in the face of adversity set a shining example for all who had the privilege of serving alongside him.
Smitty, found solace and camaraderie among his fellow Marines, forging bonds that would last a lifetime. His experiences allowed him to grow as a leader, mentor, and friend, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him in uniform.
Upon retiring from the military on September 1975, Smitty transitioned to civilian life with the same dedication that had guided him throughout his service. While his uniform may have been replaced, his sense of duty and commitment remained steadfast.
Smitty's memory will forever be cherished by his children: Willie, Yvonne, Tracy, Michael, Leland and his stepchildren: James, Curtis, Christopher, and his extended family. His legacy of courage, dedication, and love will continue to live on through their lives, a constant reminder of the incredible man he was.
A memorial service to honor Smitty's life and service will be held on August 11th 9:30 a.m. at Miramar Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Wounded Warrior Project in Albert Smith's honor, to support fellow veterans and their families.
As we bid farewell to a true American hero and a loving father, let us remember Albert Smith, also-known-as Smitty for his sacrifice, his strength, and his unyielding love. May his soul find eternal peace, and may his memory continue to inspire us all to live with the same courage and commitment that he exemplified throughout his extraordinary life.
