

Charles Frank Vandegrift, age 91 years, of Murrieta, CA entered eternal life on January 20, 2026. Chuck was born December 18,1934 to Kathryn Lauer Schrauder and Lynn Theodore Vandegrift in Monroe, MI. He was predeceased by his wife, Susan, his brothers Ted and Tom, and his grandson Luke. He is survived by his brother John, his children David, Linda and Kathryn, his grandchildren Chelsea, Mark, Laura, Claire, Colette, Kyle, Alexa, Michaela, David, Joseph, Gemma, Thomas, Kateri and Rose, and great-grandchildren Sophie, Luke, Mabel, Patrick, Nicholas, Abigail, Elizabeth, James, Clement, Aiden, Caeli, Sienna, Magdalene, Finnian and Virginia.
After graduating from Catholic Central High School in Monroe in 1952, Chuck received a B.A. in Economics from University of Notre Dame, an M.B.A. from University of Michigan and a J.D. from University of San Diego School of Law.
Chuck served in the U.S. Navy (1956-1959) as a Supply Officer, and he was honorably discharged from active duty as a Lieutenant. He continued to further serve our nation in the U.S. Naval Reserve until his retirement in 1982 in which he culminated his military career at the rank of Commander.
Chuck met his wife, Susan Colby, in 1959 and married in 1960, the new family settling in San Diego, CA where Chuck began his banking career in Trust Account Administration at Security Pacific National Bank, continuing at First National Bank & Trust Co. of Mountain Home, AR, and retiring as Vice President and Trust Officer from First Interstate Bank of Arizona, N.A.
Chuck and Susan shared a lifelong enthusiasm for the University of Notre Dame and Notre Dame football and sports in general, sharing many fun events with their children and grandchildren. They also spent much time and effort traveling to visit and spend time with friends and family, and seeing the world.
Chuck was involved in numerous civic, community and professional endeavors including his service as a Rotarian, a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, a member of the American Bar Association, California Bar Association and Arkansas Bar Association. He was a lector at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church in Mountain Home, AR and an altar server at St. Helen’s Roman Catholic Parish in Glendale, AZ. He also helped coordinate the Rosary prayer group at Fountain Glen in Murrieta, CA.
Chuck’s greatest legacy will be his unwavering strength, selflessness and dedication to his family, friends and community, and his example of faithfulness to God.
