Mario Jorge do Nascimento

Born on August 12, 1952, in São Roque do Pico, Azores, Mário grew up with a deep pride in his island roots and a strong work ethic learned at age 11 in his father's workshop. In 1970, he began an incredible journey through Europe and Canada before reaching the United States in 1973, a journey during which he made a sacred vow to the Holy Spirit that he faithfully fulfilled in 1982.

After working on his godfather's tuna fishing boat out of San Diego, destiny reunited him in 1974 with his childhood friend, Filomena, at the Artesia D.E.S. Portuguese Hall. They married in 1975, beginning 51 years of shared devotion and building a life grounded in faith, hard work, and family.

A master craftsman who never cut corners, Mário was a man of his word, known for his unwavering honesty, his advice to "take your time and tie your knots right," his habit of always running a little late, and his corny sense of humor. Above all, his heart belonged to his family. His ten grandchildren were his greatest pride and joy, and his face would light up whenever they entered the room.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Filomena; his sons, Mario, Nelson, and Andre; his sister, Maria Adosinda; and ten cherished grandchildren: Dylan, Logan, Austin, Skylar, Ryder, Noah, Aden, Mason, Sawyer, and Malakai.
