Ronald Thomas Moreland, 79, passed to his eternal home on December 6, 2023, with his family by his side.. Ron was born May 3, 1944 in Orange, CA, to Florine and Thomas Moreland and has lived in California all his 79 years.
As a youth Ron was active in Scouts, earning his rank of Eagle before his 14th birthday. In high school Ron played baseball and ran track. After graduating from Santa Ana High School, he attended UCSD, UCSB, Chapman University, and Cal State Fullerton where he earned his Bachelors and Master's Degrees while serving in the naval reserves.
Ron served 37 years as an educator in the Corona and Irvine Unified School District. After teaching sixth grade in Corona Ron continued his career in Irvine.
At El Camino Real School he began to serve as an administrator. Following El Camino Real, Ron was selected as principal of Turtle Rock and Westpark Elementary Schools. Both schools achieved recognition as California Distinguished Schools under his leadership. As an administrator he created innovative programs like "Kids of Turtle Rock" which presented kid centered learning situations over a live cable TV program. He was involved in the creation of the STAGES program for student counseling when they were experiencing traumatic situations in their personal lives. With a physical education minor Ron developed a program called "Noon Time Sports", coaching students in flag football and other activities. Then, as a year-round administrator he began an one week Intersession Program within the three week break between year round sessions.
In retirement Ron started his own educational consulting business primarily for special needs students, and enjoyed playing golf with his friends. With a gift for administration, Ron chaired the committees for a few of his high school reunions, including the 50th, and beyond! After moving to La Quinta, and then to Temecula, Ron became more involved in church activities, leading small home groups, serving on church committees, and organizing church events to honor first responders, and veterans. One of his favorite acts of service was organizing the Birdies for Bread golf tournament to raise money for the local Temecula food pantry.
In his final months Ron was bathed in prayer and enjoyed all communications from his friends, for which his family is most grateful!
