Aiden Michael Rutherford Velasco, 18, passed away on May 11, 2026. He was born on December 17, 2007, in Carrollton, Texas. Aiden was raised in Lewisville, Texas and later moved to San Augustine after graduating high school.
Aiden graduated from ‘Lewisville High School Main’ a half semester early. Earning A–B Honor Roll recognition while also completing college credits. He was a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success and had already begun building a future for himself. He planned to attend Stephen F. Austin State University to study Computer Science, a path that reflected both his curiosity and his passion for technology and creativity.
Aiden was a bright, driven young man with a deeply creative spirit. He was the person who turned heaviness into humor. Deeply loyal and protective of the people he loved. Someone who felt things deep. He was gentler than people realized. His love was expressed through laughter, protection, and presence. He loved through actions more than words. He was a safe place for the people closest to him.
He loved video games and was known for being extremely competitive, especially when playing with people he loved. The playful rivalry in Star Wars games, where he proudly held a memorable 20–0 winning streak that became a running joke and a treasured bond between him and those closest to him. He dreamed of designing his own video game one day.
Beyond gaming, Aiden loved anime. He also dreamed of becoming a voice actor and found joy in expressing himself creatively. He spent time on YouTube, both watching and creating content with friends, especially enjoying gaming creators and communities that reflected his own passions. He loved reading and conspiracies.
Aiden had a gentle spirit. He loved taking walks and found interest in small details others might overlook. He was deeply family-oriented and loved his family with his whole heart. He was baptized on August 30, 2016, in San Augustine by Jerry Fountain, a moment that remained an important part of his journey in faith.
Though he was loud and full of energy on the outside, Aiden was also deeply sensitive underneath. He often absorbed the emotions of others like a sponge and felt things deeply even when he didn’t always have the words to express it. When overwhelmed, he often turned to humor, gaming, music, or imagination as a way to cope and connect. He loved deeply, but quietly and sincerely.
He is welcomed in heaven by his paternal grandparents, David and Guadeloupe Velasco; his maternal grandmother, Polly Rutherford; and his beloved uncle, Jeffrey Rutherford.
Aiden is survived by his father, Michael Velasco; his mother, Alysia Rutherford; and his stepfather, Richard Bennett. He is also survived by his aunt Michelle Rios and husband
Leonard Rios; uncle Scott Rutherford and wife Lorraine Rutherford; aunt Kelsey Rutherford and husband Stuart Bennett; cousins Leonard Rios, Macie Rios, Adam Alvarez, Brandon Rutherford, Savannah Hermes, Zachary Smith, Zowie Smith and Zayn Smith along with numerous other cousins who loved him deeply.
Aiden will be remembered for his humor, his loyalty, his creativity, and the way he loved people in his own unique and meaningful way. He leaves behind memories that will continue to be cherished, laughter that will be remembered, and a presence that will be deeply missed.
